HLTAID011 Provide First Aid | Ages 14–18

This course covers the following units:

• HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Build practical first aid skills and the confidence to respond when someone needs help. This course is designed specifically for young people aged 14–18 and gives learners the knowledge and practical skills to respond to a range of emergency situations.

Learners will develop essential skills including providing first aid, performing CPR, using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and responding appropriately while waiting for professional help to arrive.

Entry Requirements

This course is available to learners aged 14–18 years. There are no formal entry requirements, however learners will need:

• A Unique Student Identifier (USI). We can help you create one if you don't have one yet.
• Parent or guardian consent to enrol (for learners under 18)
• The physical ability to kneel on the floor and perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin

What You'll Learn

Learners develop practical first aid skills including:

• Assessing and responding to emergency situations
• Recognising when emergency assistance is required
• Performing CPR and placing someone in the recovery position
• Responding to injuries such as bleeding, burns, fractures and choking
• Responding to allergic reactions and other common first aid situations
• Using an AED safely
• Providing appropriate first aid while waiting for emergency services
• Recording and reporting incidents accurately

Delivery Approach

• Online Theory: Complete pre-learning modules at your own pace to develop essential first aid knowledge before attending the practical session.
• Classroom/Practical: Attend a hands-on practical session to practise and demonstrate first aid skills under trainer supervision.
